Some men say they are particularly attracted to shorter women, and the preference can be strong enough to influence who initially catches their attention. There is no universal rule behind it, however, because attraction develops from a mixture of physical preferences, personality, culture, previous relationships, and individual experiences.

One possible explanation is the noticeable height difference itself. Some men enjoy being taller than their partner because it can make them feel physically larger or more protective. So the claim that men prefer short women because they all possess some hidden physical advantage is misleading. For men who do prefer shorter women, the attraction is usually about personal taste, perceived femininity, the visual height difference, or how that difference makes them feel—not a special characteristic that every short woman shares.
